Spruce up Your London Home for a Sunny Spring Sale
If you’ve been thinking of selling your London home for some time, then now is the time to bite the bullet and get it on the property market.
That’s because spring to summer (but especially the former) is the best time to sell property according to the experts. Buyers are more prepared to venture out into the warmer (supposedly!) weather now that winter has passed, so you’re more likely to get viewings and ultimately a sale.
But, of course, you won’t be the only house seller out to entice hungry buyers. You’ll have plenty of competition from your neighbours- especially if you live in a desirable property location – so how do you make your house stand out from the crowd? Well, a little spring make-over certainly won’t do any harm:
5 Teeny touch-ups that make a world of difference
Clear up cosmetic eyesores
Broken tiles, dripping taps, paper that has peeled off the walls at corners etc – get it all sorted. The reason is that it won’t only looks better but if you haven’t made an effort with the little things like this then potential buyers will be suspicious that you have the same lackadaisical attitude with major things in your London home (such as your heating system or window frames etc).
Get out into the garden
Yes, you may not feel like pulling out weeds and planting new shrubbery etc but remember the whole issue of Kerb Appeal? A badly tended front lawn and a driveway with weeds coming through is going to put anyone off coming to see your home. And if you can’t be bothered to do it yourself, then get someone qualified to give your garden a once-over; it’ll be worth it, we promise.
Get callous with clutter
If there’s one thing that is guaranteed to make the rooms in your London home look smaller, it is definitely items lying around the place. It could be magazines, the kids’ toys, the odd coffee cup etc. You don’t need to be a neat freak but you do have to make things look tidy and well-presented. Potential buyers don’t want the ‘lived in’ look – they want a clean slate so they can imagine themselves living in your home.
Sink any smell
Got a bit of a whiff going on from a drain out the back, or maybe the kitchen sink isn’t as ‘fresh’ smelling as it should be? Then it’s time to get tough on those odours. First, fix the cause of the odour and if it’s still lingering when you’re expecting buyers then scented candles or flowers aren’t a bad bet. We all use them these days so it won’t look as if you’re temporarily covering anything up.
Put parking up top
If you’re expecting potential buyers to arrive by car then make sure there is a space for them to park in. Do this by hogging the spot near your property with your own car then moving it just as the buyers are about to arrive. The last thing you want is for them to have to drive around for ages looking for a parking spot. That’s because it may make them think twice about buying…
